1st/2nd Flatiron Trail

Activity:  Hike
Difficulty:  Moderate
Distance: 2.6 miles
Location: Chautauqua Trailhead
Description:

If you're lucky, find parking at Chautauqua Park. Begin hiking at the Chautauqua Trailhead and follow the signs for the 1st/2nd Flatiron trail. The trail is busy with a lot of traffic and it doesn't really let up at any point. The begining of the hike is pretty easy on a wide trail. As you hike on the trail narrows and the views get better.

There is a large boulder field to hike across with a well worn trail through it. We hiked up past a small bridge for climber access; the hiking trail continues to the left. There are a few areas where you will need to put your hands down to make it over the rocks, especially when wearing a child carrier. Our hike ended before we reached the official end of the trail. In the last section you need to boulder to reach the rest of the trail. For safety of the kids, we turned around and had another hiker take our photo.

We found a log off the side of the trail to eat lunch. On the crowded trail it worked well to leave the kids in their carriers to eat. We progressed down the trail and made it back to the car. It was a nice day hike. Sort of obligatory living so close to the Flatirons.
