Christmas Igloo - Part 2
Activity: Igloo Building, SnowshoeingLocation: Peaceful Valley Campground
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: about 2 miles
Description:
After failing to complete our igloo build on our first atempt we headed out to Peaceful Valley the day after Christmas to try to finish. Knowing that we needed the kids to be more distraced, and less involved in the igloo, we packed them in the trailer and put on the ski attachments. It was the first time using the skis and harness. We also needed to keep them out of the wind and cold, they have a nice warm bubble inside the trailer. It was not in the mid 40's like our first day of building, but instead in the teens with lots of wind.
I headed out to snowshoe hike Middle Saint Vrain Road between Peaceful Valley and Camp Dick. Unfortunately, a few yards into the hike our ski harness adaptors broke. So, I ended up pushing the trailer like a stroller. This strategy worked but was not ideal. Because of the holiday weekend, there were several people on the trail but it was not too busy. I kept on knowing that Brett needed as much time as he could get to build the igloo.
Brett spent the day packing snow and building more on the igloo. With the sinking sun and the very cold weather we had to give up on completing the igloo and planned to come back on another day.
